Tawai tree

The Tawai tree (Nothofagus Menziseii) are silver beech trees, first existing around 100 million years ago, when Gondwana was still a thing. Very old and pretty big (up to 30 meters tall), Tawai are known as "sentinels of the forest", and were of much importance to the Maori, who considered Tawai trees taonga (treasures).
